Adam and Emma have been friends for fifteen years, and they still occasionally cross paths. He gets drunk, phones every woman on his cell phone contact list, and passes out in her living room after learning that his dad is living with his ex-girlfriend. By now, he’s a gopher on a TV show akin to “Glee,” aspiring to become a writer, while she’s a medical resident in Los Angeles. She calls her father’s burial “a thing” and hides her feelings, so in the few minutes she has left before heading to the hospital, she asks him if he wants a simple, no-strings-attached relationship without romance or drama.
